At first glance, the proposal that French film director and artist Michel Gondry brought to the Usina del Arte is like the rebirth of Alejandro Romay. He has built, on the second floor of the building, 13 film sets with walls made of durlock or chipboard, plus four minisets he brought from abroad, and put to work producers, carpenters, technicians, electricians, designers and editors, as if it were the old Channel 9 studios.
Gondry calls it The Factory, although it is presented here as the Usina de películas amateurs and consists of a three-hour group experience for those who pre-register to shoot a «homemade» film in spaces created for the purpose, including costumes and makeup. The artist arrived in Buenos Aires for the first time, accompanied by an entourage of six people.
The shooting spaces range from a kiosk to a video store, a doctor’s office with its waiting room, a child’s room, an old car, a train, a cafe, a camping site, a police station, a prison, a kitchen and a living room. Seen in perspective, it is like a small neighborhood, whose design was the work of art director Mercedes Alfonsín. 07.11.2017
